DP World's flagship terminal Jebel Ali Port has won Best Seaport terminal in Middle East at the 28th Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) held in Shanghai.
The award was the 20th consecutive year that DP World garnered the award picked up by its managing director China Kris Chang on behalf of DP World, UAE region.
In a report from UAE's Arabian Supply Chain, the global port operator CEO Mohammed Sharaf said the accolade is down to the outstanding performance of DP World's UAE region team in Dubai.
The terminal reached 13.6 million TEU handled in 2013 from a total capacity of 19 million TEU with four million TEU extra in its latest container terminal (T3).
The port's third terminal will feature 19 quay cranes capable of lifting four TEU at one time by remote operation. The five new STS quay cranes that stand at 138 metres tall at full boom extension will join four cranes which were installed back in December 2013. A total of 20 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes (ARMG) cranes are also moving on their rails at the 70 hectare yard, according to Shipping Gazette
