KMTC HAS received the KMTC Mumbai, the first of two wide-beam ships of 5,466 TEU built at the Hanjin-Philippines site in Subic Bay for the South Korean shipping line, according to Shipping Gazette.
This vessel was contracted by the Schulte Group in June 2012 as part of a five-ship order, with the fifth contract sold to the carrier in October 2013.
The second KMTC box ship being built at the same yard was ordered directly by KMTC in December 2013 for US$45 million, and it is scheduled for delivery next year.
The newbuilding will join the Far East-India Express service jointly operated by Hanjin Shipping and KMTC, called FIX.
In a separate development, the 5,370-TEU Wide Bravo has been delivered to Japanese shipping line, NYK.
She is owned by US private equity firm Oaktree Capital, the second of 10 wide-beam ships of this size ordered in May 2013 from Hanjin's Subic Bay yard in the Philippines with Rickmers Reederei and Schulte Group as managers.
The container ship was chartered by NYK in January for a period of eight to ten months, together with the first ship in the series that was delivered last month.
Both vessels are assigned to the Asia-east coast South America joint service of PIL, 'K' Line, NYK and HMM, replacing ships of 4,538 TEU on this service.
