TAPA certification is recognized worldwide as one of the most stringent independent security certifications in the field of logistics. TAPA Freight Security rules include instructions regarding buildings, equipment and processes with the aim of ensuring the safety of goods while the goods are in the care of the logistics provider. The accreditation therefore involved rigorous auditing of DB Schenker’s security infrastructure and warehouse facility in Zwevegem.
“The A-level of TAPA certification not only confirms that our site in Zwevegem fulfills the highest demands stipulated by the association’s Freight Security Requirements (FSR) but also places us in the top league of all TAPA-audited sites,” Dirk Busselen, Dangerous Goods Security Environment Manager of Schenker nv, states.
DB Schenker’s logistics center in Zwevegem was opened for the handling of pan-European goods in August 2013. It boasts more than 5,000 square meters of operational logistics space and 2,900 square meters of office space, and provides optimum connections to both domestic and international transportation. The modern cross-dock terminal is equipped with more than 70 unloading and loading docks and the latest environmentally friendly and state-of-the-art energy technology.
Based in Antwerp, Schenker nv is one of the Belgian market’s leading integrated logistics service providers and employs 680 staff at eight branches: Antwerp, Brussels, Eupen, Mechelen, Zwevegem, Willebroek, Zaventem and Zeebrugge. DB Schenker Logistics supports industry and trade in the global exchange of goods combining Land Transport, Air and Ocean Freight, Contract Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
“Our efforts to offer our customers a safe and secure facility for handling their goods was rewarded by the external certification body Det Norske Veritas (DNV) with the highest level certificate,” states Ulrich Pütz, Managing Director of Schenker nv. “The excellent score of nearly 90 per cent confirms our security concept which has been implemented in line with our comprehensive, precise and consistent planning.”
