PD Ports, award-winning ports and logistics business, and Gazeley, a leading global investor and developer of logistics warehouse and distribution parks, have today announced a joint agreement to develop up to 1.6 million sqft of build-to-suit sustainable portcentric logistics warehousing in the next phase of development at Teesport in the North East of the UK.
Each year Teesport sees over 5,000 vessels and handles circa 38 million tonnes of cargo. It is the UK's best connected feeder port and the North East's premier container facility.
This latest phase of development follows successful build-to-suit developments constructed at the port for ASDA Walmart (360,000 sqft direct import centre) and Tesco (900,000 sqft ambient import centre) which provided both customers with an effective portcentric solution that helped save road miles and C02 emissions.
Within the development it is also expected that up to 500,000 sqft of development can be directly rail linked via the dedicated onsite rail freight terminal.
Geoff Lippitt, Business Development Director at PD Ports, commented on the announcement: "Working with Gazeley is a step in the right direction for Teesport. The experience they bring to this project is invaluable and combining this with our portcentric logistics knowledge will make this a great success. This partnership will help to further highlight Teesport as a destination of choice for international supply chain facilities."Also speaking about the announcement, Phil Oakley, Development Manager, Gazeley said: "Together with PD Ports we are able to provide the complete Multimodal Logistics offer to our mutual customers seeking efficiencies from their import/export logistics network. Gazeley is very pleased to bring its experience and expertise in warehouse development to the PD Ports offer. Multimodal hubs are a key part to our customer's logistics networks."
