APL received its eighth unit in a series of ten 14,000-TEU newbuildings that were ordered in June 2011 from Hyundai Samho by parent company, Singapore's NOL Group.
The two remaining ships will be delivered by May.
Five of the ships are chartered out to MOL at delivery. The MOL Quasar is the fourth of the five MOL-chartered units and has joined the G6 Asia-Europe Loop 7.
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has taken delivery of the second of five 13,100-TEU newbuildings ordered in August 2011 from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for KRW695 billion (US$129 million) per ship.
This vessel has joined the G6 Asia-Europe Loop 5 and follows a sister-ship delivery in February. The three remaining ships will be delivered within the next three months for assignments on G6 Asia-Europe loops, reports Alphaliner.
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), whose fleet is soon to rival that of world champion, Maersk, is to take charge the second of three 9,403-TEU vessels ordered in September 2010 by Greek owner Costamare from the Jiangnan Changxing shipyard.
She was ordered together with another three sister ships that were bought by the Schulte Group, all with the backing of MSC.
The newbuilding is being deployed on MSC's Far East-South Africa-east coast South America 'Ipanema' service. She follows a December delivery.
These three ships are part of an MSC programme of 8,700-9,500 TEU newbuildings, which now numbers 43 ships, of which 17 are already in service. Most of the ships are equipped with 1,000 reefer plugs or more to serve the South America trades.
