THE French port of Le Havre has frozen its containership harbour dues for 2014, marking the fifth consecutive year of not raising its tariffs.
Le Havre will also keep in place tariff rebates for transshipments amounting to 60 per cent for vessels of less than 3,500 TEU and 50 per cent for bigger ships.
The drawback system applies to containerships making more than 50 per cent of their calls for transhipment volumes, reports Lloyd's List.
Le Havre is also retaining its "double call" measure established in 2013 for ocean-going container vessels.
The port authority said: "The geographic location of Le Havre as the first import port of call and the last export port of call in northern Europe is particularly favourable to feeder services.
"For shipping companies, this measure aims at making neutral the double call compared to a single call with the same volumes of traffic, import and export."
The port is also maintaining the measure concerning the Environmental Ship Index to encourage environment-friendly ships to visit the port. Since its introduction in January 2012, the reward now accounts for up to the equivalent of 10 per cent of port fees.
