The MoU was signed at the sixth Korea-Russia Business Dialogue meeting held in Seoul and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and South Korean President Park Guen-hye.
A statement from the Korean Register said the agreement includes "technical cooperation and development of common rules for icebreaker/ice classed vessels, technical cooperation for LNG and offshore vessels operating in the Arctic Ocean, regular joint technical seminars, regular summits involving the CEO's of each society and information sharing and an exchange of technical personnel.
Said RS chief operations officer Pavel Shikov: "We are keen to continue to develop Russia's shipbuilding sector and also to widen our own skill and knowledge base. The signing of this new MoU will allow us to learn from our colleagues in Korea and for us to work together to the advantage of the international shipping industry."
Said KR chairman and CEO Chon Young-kee: "I am delighted to sign this agreement which I am confident heralds a long and fruitful relationship between KR and RS. Not only will this assist with the on-going development of the international shipping industry, but it will also make a further contribution to the knowledge base of both countries through mutual technical information interchange."
