Russia's Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) posted a 13 per cent increase in container volume year on year in the first nine months of 2012 totalling 257,707 TEU, driven by robust trade with south east Asia, according to the Shipping Gazette. Container volume through FESCO's subsidiary, the Vladivostok Commercial Sea Port, increased eight per cent year on year to 338,769 TEU over the same period. "We view the results for the first nine months of 2012 very positively and we are continuing to see a strong demand growth for the integrated services we offer on the south east Asia and Russia trade," said FESCO vice president Stanislav Vartanyan. "Services on this route are our flagship product, and demand is very high there as shown by a high capacity utilisation on both our bilateral shipping lines and rail container trains," he said. Intermodal volumes increased eight per cent over the same period to 198,973 TEU, but non-container rail movement was off four per cent year on year to 257,707 TEU. Domestic cargo movement was up 10 per cent to 50,888 TEU with reefer cargo showing a 38 per cent leap to 35,917 TEU. Freight forwarding grew five per cent year on-year to 151,193 TEU.
