Hong Kong's Jardine Shipping has been awarded the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) Standard 18001:2007 Certification after auditing by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Ltd (LRQA). The company, a member of the Jardine Matheson Group in the Asia-Pacific region, has become the first ASEAN port agency operator to earn this prestigious international accreditation at corporate level, covering its offices located across the nine countries and territories in which it operates. "As a Group, our goal in achieving the OHSAS 18001 certification is to surpass industry standards in Health, Safety, Security and the Environment (HSSE) and create azero-accident safety culture for our employees, clients, stakeholders and the generalpublic," said chief executive Eric van der Hoeven in a statement. OHSAS 18001 is an internationally recognised assessment specification for Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). OHSMS promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows organisations to reduce the potential for accidents and improve overall performance. "Taking responsibility for our HSSE practices and performances is an integral part of the way we conduct business. We acknowledge the importance our clients place on the standards of our HSSE system and remain committed to exceed their expectations," said its HSSE manager Mark Heah. The company has offices in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, the Shipping Gazette informs.
