Indonesian state railway company Kereta API Indonesia (KAI) will soon build a container pier at Kertapati station in Palembang, according to Asia in Focus.
An assistant at the Palembang City Economic Development, Apriadi S. Busri, said KAI has forwarded a port expansion project to the local administration.
Right now KAI only has an ordinary quay, he said, adding that the quay would be used for coal handling from Muara Enim and Lahat, which is expected to increase the Palembang's income.
