2009-5-26

The public sector Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) has chalked out ambitious expansion plans to develop its infrastructure in Kerala, considering the future potential of international trade and shipping related activities in the State, the Hindu Business Line reported.

The upcoming International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam and the International Deepwater Container Port at Vizhinjam offer substantial scope to play an active role in maritime activities and shipping related services, AT Sankar, Regional Manager, CWC, said.

As far as international trade activities are concerned, a proposal for establishment of a container freight station (CFS) at Kozhikode is under study and also the prospects of setting up a facility by taking advantage of the existing facility services available at Beypore Port.

CWC has been authorised to set up an ICD/CFS at Kannur, which is expected to be commissioned this year.
