Germany's Lloyd Fonds AG has sold two 12,800-TEU to French container shipping company CMA CGM, reports DGAP (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Auswartige Politik), the German Council for Foreign Relations.
The 12,800-TEU ships are two out of eight mega-ships Lloyd Fonds ordered in Korea in 2007 together with Hamburg shipping company NSC.
Two more mega-ships have been chartered to the French container line for 12 years. The contracts were signed with Lloyd Fonds and Hamburg shipping company NSC.
"It would be almost negligent of us not to make use of opportunities such as these when the shipping industry is booming," said Lloyd Fonds CEO Torsten Teichert.
The two ships have been chartered at a rate of US$59,500 per day over 12 years and are to be placed in a closed-end fund in the second half of the year.
The ships are scheduled for delivery as of 2010. Lloyd Fonds AG has over 20 ships on order, including four 3,600-TEU ships and eight 92,500-tonne bulkers.
DGAP (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Auswartige Politik), German Council for Foreign Relations, was started as a University of Bonn sponsored non-profit body seeking to promote German foreign policy.
