The Port of Melbourne handled a record volume of containerised exports in April, according to figures released during the Port of Melbourne Corporation's annual stakeholder event.
In April the total throughput volume rose by 12.7 per cent compared to the same month last year, and throughput was up 6.9 per cent for the year to date, reports Australia's Supply Chain Review.
Full containerised exports grew by 15.3 per cent to a record 65,654 TEU for the month, and total container throughput for April registered an increase of 12.6 per cent on last year. Full container imports rose by 10.9 per cent over April last year.
The total number of containers handled by the port in the 12 months to the end of April has risen to more than 2.23 million TEU.
