South Korea's STX Shipbuilding owns 40.39 percent of the shares in Norwegian shipbuilder Aker Yards , after it bought an additional 1.32 million shares at 63 crowns per share, STX said on Monday.

Crossing 40 percent will trigger a mandatory offer to buy out minority owners.

On Friday, STX bid up to $110 million to buy from 2 million to 9 million more Aker Yards shares through its broker ABG Sundal Collier.
