Maersk docks at west Pearl River port of Nansha on new AE1 service

2008-6-13

Denmark's Maersk Line is revising the port rotation for its new Asia to Europe (AE1) service by adding a port of call at Nansha on the west side of the Pearl River Delta, thus trimming costly trucking fees for shippers who export cargo through Shenzhen terminals.

The shipping giant said that by making a port of call in Nansha it would be able to offer an improved connection between Nansha and the north European ports of Rotterdam, Southampton and Hamburg, reports the UK's Transport Intelligence.

It said that the shipping line would offer transshipment services from Nansha, where AE1 vessels would berth at GOCT terminal, via Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia) for connection to worldwide destinations.

The first AE1 sailing to include a Nansha call will be undertaken by the Sine Maersk, which is scheduled to depart from the Chinese port on June 16.

The new AE1 port rotation will be: Nansha, Tanjung Pelepas, Rotterdam, Southampton, and Hamburg.
