Coastal ports in Fujian province handled 1.66 million TEU in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 11.6 per cent year on year, Xinhua reported.
The Q1 box volume included 1.19 million TEU for foreign trade, up 4.89 per cent year on year, the report said.
Total cargo throughput of Fujian sea ports in the first quarter increased 10.8 per cent to 61.87 million tons, including 17.53 million ton foreign trade cargo that fell 9.4 per cent compared with the same period of last year, the report said.
Fujian invested CNY5.8 billion (US$830.28 million) in transportation infrastructure in the first quarter, including CNY2.31 billion ($330.69 million) in expressway construction, CNY2.13 ($304.92 million) in highways and CNY1.32 billion ($188.97 million) in ports.
