Damco named best logistics provider for sea freight

2008-5-5

Damco, a global freight forwarder and part of the AP Moller-Maersk Group, has been named the Best Logistics Service Provider-Sea Freight at the recent 22nd Asia Freight Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) in Singapore.

Judging criteria for the award includes innovation, clearly defined service standards, problem solving capabilities, as well as applying effective and user-friendly IT systems supported by efficient and professional customer service.

This achievement is Damco's first major industry award since the brand was launched in July 2007 with new visual identities, and it reflects customers' satisfaction with the Damco brand and its flexible, local and personal services, a company statement said.

The presence of Damco in China dates back to the 1970s. To date, Damco has opened 12 offices across China, including offices in Beijing, Dalian, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin and Xiamen.

Within a lean structure, Damco's 500 staff provide a range of tailored services, including ocean freight, airfreight and other services, such as trucking, customs clearance and document management.

Morten Damgaard Andersen, head of Damco North Asia, said: "Damco is committed to be the personal forwarder of our customers. We are very pleased that our China/North Asia customers have recognised our efforts. It demonstrates that we have managed to establish Damco in the China market within a very short period."

Damco was born of a merger of Dutch freight forwarding company Damco Sea & Air and the forwarding activities of Denmark-based DSL Star Express. Established in 1988, Damco Sea & Air was P&O Nedlloyd's forwarding arm. In 2005, the AP Moller-Maersk Group acquired Damco Sea & Air in connection with the acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd.

Together with Maersk Logistics airfreight and landside services, DSL Star Express was renamed Damco in July 2007 and headquartered in Copenhagen.
