Shanghai, Chongqing, Sichuan sign customs clearance cooperation agreement

2008-5-2

China's eastern port city of Shanghai and south western city of Chongqing and Sichuan province have agreed on cooperation in providing one-stop custom clearances service to shippers and forwarders who need to ship their cargo via Shanghai, Logistics Week reported.

Shanghai has undertaken to launch new feeder lines to Chongqing and Sichuan and to shorten turnaround times.

In addition, Shanghai will also build a customs clearance platform at Chongqing, which allows shippers in the region to go through every procedures there instead of going to Shanghai to clear customs.

The volume of cargo exported via Shanghai from Chongqing has been growing rapidly in the recent years. 80 per cent of Chongqing's cargo and 50 per cent of Sichuan's cargo is exported via Shanghai.
