The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) is preparing to host three maritime events during the first week of June 2008.
The first event will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the GPA and Suez Canal Authority on June 2, to promote services between Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and the US east coast. The GPA will also renew an MOU with the Panama Canal Authority, extending their relationship.
The second event will commemorate the launch of an e-tag cargo tracking programme in use by the GPA and the Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG). With the use of an RFID technology system, the GPA and SIPG will track cargo movements inside a container from its point of origin to its final destination.
The third event is the fourth annual East Coast Maritime Conference from June 3-5. Sessions will focus on challenges in today's changing global market, as shifts are being made in export versus import cargo and the expanding regions of sourcing from Asia are changing the dynamics in global logistics.
