Cyclone shuts down Myanmar ports

2008-5-13

Most of Myanmar's major ports have been damaged by Cyclone Nargis.

The main terminals - government-operated Bo Aung Kyaw Terminal (BSW), Hutchison-managed Myanmar International Terminal Thilawa (MITT), Annawa Swan Ahaa Shin-managed Myanmar Industrial Port (MIP) and Asia World Port Terminal (AWPT) - are effectively closed.

The MITT in Yangon has been reopened to receive international relief supplies. The Kota Tampan, a containership operated by local feeder line Advance Container Lines (ACL), was able to berth at the MITT. It was offloading containers using its on-board cranes. ACL is a unit of Pacific International Lines (PIL).
