Container ports in Abu Dhabi collectively registered a 34 per cent increase in volumes in 2007 compared to the previous year, with imports rising by 17 per cent.
Vehicle imports were said to have registered the highest growth among inbound traffic with a 20 per cent increase over 2006.
Chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Mannai said, "The ADPC has a real challenge going ahead: to develop port services and maintain and enhance success rates that have been achieved since the set up of the company."
Nasser Al Sowaidi, chairman of ADPC, added that while Abu Dhabi is seeing unprecedented development in all fields, the transportation sector is deemed important because it acts as the emirate's economic gateway, reports Emirates Business 24/7.
