On April 4, 2008 sea trials of LNG carrier Grand Mereya which is built for Russian-Japanese consortium MOL-K LINE-PRISCO has been successfully completed. On March 26, 2008 crew, MES specialists and consortium's supervisers shipped out for final sea trials. During sea trials marine power plants, navigational equipment, different ship systems, handling quality and stability of the ship were checked directly at the sea. The LNG carrier has shown excellent sea performances that were high maneuvering ability and specified speed.
Ice strengthened vessel was designed for operation in the conditions of freezing seas. The new LNG carrier has the following main characteristics: length -289,5 m, breadth -49 m. The new tanker can transport more than 145 000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas for each voyage. Under the full loading the vessel can accelerate 19,5 knots.
On April 8, 2008 the Naming Ceremony of LNG carrier will be held at the MES shipyard. The vessel will be delivered to Russian-Japanese consortium MOL-K LINE-PRISCO by the end of this month.
On November, 2004 consortium MOL-K LINE-PRISCO won a tender for transportation of LNG. According to the tender LNG carrier "Grand Mereya" will operate under the long-term charter concluded with Sakhalin Energy, operator of the project "Sakhalin ¨C 2".
