APM Terminals becomes majority shareholder in Brazil stevedore

2008-4-29

APM Terminals has assumed operational and management responsibility for Ceara Terminal Operator (CTO), becoming the majority shareholder in the stevedoring and container terminal operating company at the Port of Pecem, in Northern Brazil.

Brazil-based Unilink Transportes Integrados holds the minority stake in CTO, which was established as a consortium at Pecem five years ago to exploit the region's refrigerated container export potential.

The offshore Port Terminal of Pecem provides two 350-meter berths, and a 16-meter draft. It connects to a storage yard of 380,000 square meters containing two warehouses, three refrigerated chambers and 624 reefer plugs. Annual container throughput is projected at 100,000 TEUs.
