Unitex International Forwarding (HK) Ltd has opened its own office in India, setting up a headquarters in Chennai and branch offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore.
The move is intended to raise the company's market share up from 31 per cent at present, as well as extend the reach of its service network coverage.
The office opening also comes amid growing demand for the company's freight forwarding services, with its cargo volumes to and from India increasing from 8,798 TEU in 2006 to 11,560 TEU in 2007, a company statement said.
Initially, 45 staff will be employed in India, and the company expects to raise this number to 100 in 2009. "The India office will keep exploring, and provide more steady, faster, wider international logistics services. The strong support of inland transportation, facile and quick ability of custom clearance and efficiently three-dimensional logistics network formed by ocean shipping and air express can meet the customers' requirements," said Unitex.
Since its establishment in Hong Kong in 1997, Unitex has been undergoing rapid growth. It now has nine branches at the Chinese port cities of Shenzhen, Canton, Shanghai, Ningbo, Tianjin, Xiamen and Qingdao. Its overseas agency network covers more than 100 countries, and the company employs more than 500 staff.
Unitex holds Class A and NVOCC licences, and is a member of CIFA, HAIFA, IATA and FIATA, the release added.
