Xiamen first quarter import growth sets new high

During the first quarter of this year, Xiamen's import surged 41.1 per cent year on year to US$5.4 billion, breaking the fastest growth record in three years.

From January to March, Xiamen's foreign trade value rose 27 per cent to $15 billion. Export went 20.3 per cent to $9.6 billion.

The European Union, US, Japan, ASEAN and Taiwan were the top trading partners for Xiamen. Value of trade with these markets took up 67 per cent of Xiamen's foreign trade total.

Trade with the EU increased 29.1 per cent to $2.77 billion. Trade with US rose 15.7 per cent to $2.68 billion. Trade with Japan valued $1.99 billion, an increase of 18 per cent over the same period a year ago. Trade with the ASEAN increased 28.5 per cent to $1.38 billion. Trade with Taiwan soared 72.1 per cent to $1.24 billion.
