APM's Tanger-Med Port crane delivery marks Moroccan terminal's take off

2008-4-23

APM Terminals Tangier recently took delivery of its last three Super Post-Panamax STS cranes from Shanghai's ZPMC, marking the start of its fully operational stage.

The remaining 11 rubber tyre gantry cranes are to be delivered by June, and all will be in service by July, marking the end of its fully operational status.

"The launch of APM Terminals at Tanger-Med port has been a great success, with performance levels that already compare with those of longer-established, fully operational terminals," said APM Terminals Tangier managing director Etienne Rocher.

Import container activities began in February and full container load transshipments are the focus of the Tanger-Med Port with an expected one million TEU throughput by 2009, well ahead of original projections.

APM Terminals Tangier serves Maersk Line Europe/Asia and West Africa rotations together with additional services that ply South American and the Middle East trade lanes as well as feeder vessels covering the western Med.

APM Terminals owns Global Terminal Network with its more than 50 facilities in 35 countries on five continents, serving 60 container lines.
