PSA Singapore Terminals (PSA) has awarded SG$160 million (US$117.8 million) contract for 79 rubber-tyre gantry cranes (RTGs) to Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction from South Korea.
The RTGs will be deployed at PSA's new berths at Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT) in Singapore to cater to growing volumes from shipping line customers calling at PSA.
They are also the first batch of RTGs that will be delivered equipped with energy-saving devices to help reduce fuel usage.
Kyung-Ho Park, executive vice-president of Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction said, "The RTGs have been customised to PSA's specifications which include fuel consumption conservation, thereby safeguarding the environment. We are confident of delivering the RTGs on time."
Kuah Boon Wee, PSA CEO for Southeast Asia and Singapore Terminals, said: "PSA Singapore Terminals has seen steady growth of 12.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2008, year-on-year. We will continue to invest in world-class port facilities and equipment to ensure that we retain our value as an attractive hub port of choice to the shipping lines."
