Maxicon Container plans direct Myanmar service soon

Maxicon Container Line Ltd, a division of the Hyderabad-based Seaways Group is launching a direct Myanmar-India - Bangladesh service soon.

The 852 TEUs capacity m.v. Marina Star 2 will be the first vessel to embark on the maiden voyage from Yangon on April 21 to Chennai.

The next vessel of 1,118 TEUs capacity m.v. Emirates Gondwana planned for the first week of May will connect Yangon directly to Nhava Sheva (Mumbai) and shall call Colombo/Chittagong on the return voyage, according to a company press release here.

Transit time


Indian consignees and shippers have been waiting for this direct service which will help reduce the transit time significantly and provide a regular service to both the east and west coast of of the country. This service will provide connection to Chittagong on each leg of the routing, as well, the release added.

Shippers from north and western region can utilise the service for both Chittagong and Yangon bound cargoes from Nhava Sheva, while the shippers from South and East coast can take advantage of connectivity to both these ports, from Chennai in particular.

m.v. Marina Star 2 will provide thrice a month connection to the east coast of India, while m.v. Emirates Gondwana will provide fortnightly connection to the west coast.

Myanmar primarily exports apparel, food stuffs, wood products and precious stones and is regularly importing machinery, transport equipment, construction material, food products, textile fabrics, and petroleum products. India with its 16 per cent share is ranked second behind the US as a preferred export partner of Myanmar.

Maxicon Container Line operates its own fleet of containers and is now spread all over the South-East Asian region, the Far East and several ports in the West Asian countries.

Services of MCL would be enhanced to cater to the growing demand of the trade from time-to-time, the company said.
