A Number of leading shipping companies, most of which are based in Asia, have taken delivery of new containerships, starting with NYK which has received the 9,040-TEU NYK Orion.

This vessel is the seventh ship delivered to NYK so far in a programme totalling 17 ships each with a capacity of 9,000-9,600 TEU, reports AXS-Alphaliner News.

The NYK Orion will be deployed on the Grand Alliance's Asia-Europe EU 4 loop.

Fellow Japanese shipping giant MOL has also taken delivery of the 8,110-TEU MOL Comfort built at the Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard. The containership is said to be the fourth out of a series of eight sister ships to be delivered since placing the order in 2004.

All four vessels received have been chartered by APL, including the MOL Comfort, which APL has renamed the APL Finland. She will be deployed on the New World Alliance's Asia-Europe SCX Loop, which is soon to be upgraded to use 8,000-TEU vessels.
