Birkart Globistics, the Air + Ocean division of Thiel Logistik AG, has announced a realignment of its sales division in the Asia Pacific region, marking the first major investment the company will make in freight forwarding this year.
Far East Regional managing director James Kilpatrick said the company has established a new sales force structure and leadership team, which includes key executive appointments.
Shanghai-based Henk Westerhoek joins Birkart Globistics as deputy managing director for China with responsibility for developing the company's business across central, northern and southern China.
Fabrizio Stanig will be the new deputy managing director for Birkart Globistics in central and northern China with responsibility for spearheading the company's expansion and overseeing day-to-day operations.
Axel Herzhauser has been promoted to the position of regional sales and marketing director in the Far East.
Mr Kilpatrick said: "Henk, Fabrizio and Axel know what it takes to create a profitable freight forwarding and logistics business. Together, they bring over 60 years of collective experience and success."
In a related development, Birkart Globistics has opened a new office in Busan, South Korea. Shawn Lee, managing director of Birkart Korea. It will be managed by branch manager WS Shin.
"Our new Busan location offers a wide range of international transportation services, including air and sea freight forwarding, road transport, warehousing, consolidation and distribution, and customs brokerage and compliance consulting," said Mr Lee.
The facility in Busan will also offer specialist tailored services, particularly for clients operating in the automotive, chemical, kitchen furniture and cosmetic industries.
Birkart Globistics established operations in Korea in 1999. In addition to its new Busan facility, the company also operates a local head office and logistics warehouse in Seoul, plus an airfreight centre in Incheon.
Based in Aschaffenburg, Germany, Birkart Globistics is present on all continents with a total of 200 locations, including 96 of its own company branches. In 2006, it generated sales of EUR1.89 billion (US$2.90 billion) and employs 8,600 staff in 44 countries.
