Lutz Freytag, a doctor of physics, has been appointed the chief financial officer at Schenker, the Essen-based German logistics giant, the company announced.

Dr Freytag, 49, will be responsible for the finance and accounting, control, risk management and purchasing. He succeeds Marco Schroter, who becomes CFO and human resources director with Infineon Technologies of Neubiberg.

"I am particularly pleased that with Dr Freytag we have been able to fill this important position with a man from our own ranks," said Norbert Bensel, the Deutsche Bahn board member responsible for transport and logistics.

Dr Freytag has a doctorate in physics and has been member of the board for finance at Railion Deutschland in Mainz.
