The Far Eastern Freight Conference (FEFC), whose members reportedly control 75 per cent of Asia-Europe trade, experienced an eastbound volume increase of 4.8 per cent year on year to 3.35 million TEU in 2007, it was announced.
FEFC container volume from UK north continent to Asia in 2007 went up 4.3 per cent to 2.7 million TEU, while Mediterranean to Asia cargo rose 6.8 per cent to 649,632 TEU.
The conference, which will cease to exist in October with the European ban on such organisations, previously reported a 19 per cent increase in westbound trade for 2007 to 9.5 million TEU.
The 17 carriers in the FEFC are ANL, APL, CMA CGM, CSAV Norasia, Egyptian International Shipping Co, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, "K" Line, Maersk, MSC., MISC Berhad, MOL, NYK, OOCL, Safmarine, Yang Ming and Zim.
