Perkins to open shipping agency in Singapore

2008-2-16

Singapore's growing maritime cluster has attracted yet another shipping company.

Darwin-based Perkins Shipping is to open a shipping agency over the next few months.

This is in conjunction with the establishment of the project services unit in Perth. Perkins project services will expand the group's capability with project freight forwarding support for major resource engineering projects.

This will involve complex tasks like moving mining equipment to isolated locations in the region.

"As our logistics business expands, we see the need to have our own office to manage our shipping agency work and local ship management and to provide logistics support for Perkins project services," said executive director Paul Toussaint-Jackson.
Perkins is expected to recruit about eight people to work at the Singapore office.

Perkins runs container shipping services from Darwin to Dili (East Timor), Singapore and other Southeast Asian ports and has doubled capacity on the Singapore trade route over the past four years.
