In January 2008, Mariupol Commercial Seaport decreased its throughput by 70%, year-on-year, to 467,000 tonnes, RZD-Partner reports. The decrease against December of 2007 was 69%. In 2007 the port's throughput exceeded that of the previous year by 10%.
The fall should be attributed to force majeure weather conditions. Transshipment of ferrous metal fell 4.2 times to 183,000 tonnes; coal-4.4 times to 80,000 tonnes; clay-almost twice to 72,000 tonnes; sulfur-almost 3 times to 72,000 tonnes.
