APL Logistics, Ital Logistics, JF Hillebrand UK, Premier Showfreight, Schenker, Uniserve Group and Wincanton won various Freight Service Awards at the 2007 competition organised by the British International Freight Association (Bifa).
Eve Gogarty and Derek W Johnson MBE won the individual people categories, said a Bifa statement. The winners were revealed at Bifa's annual lunch and 19th Awards Ceremony at the Brewery in London.
The Air Freight Award, sponsored by British Airways World Cargo, was won by Schenker Limited. Schenker exhibited a combination of ingenuity and attention to detail in its delivery of fresh perishables out of the UK, particularly for Scottish salmon producers.
The Uniserve Group took the Deep Sea Award, surpassing short-listed Chaucer Freight Limited and Ideal Forwarding. Sponsored by Southampton Container Terminals, this category was won by Uniserve, which submitted an entry showing logistical innovation that is producing efficiency and cost benefits. Cutting trucking time with a distribution centre bypass, and using dockside warehousing also delivered environmental benefits, Bifa said.
The European Logistics Award, sponsored by Wincanton, was won by Ital Logistics Limited. Its entry stood above the others in terms of demonstrating throughout its organisation a commitment to customer service.
The Bifa Freight Service Awards have been running 19 years. The British International Freight Association (BIFA) represents UK companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport.
