Cargo vessel accidentally kills shark

2008-1-8

An international cargo vessel killed a 7.5-m whale shark by accident after it was pinned to death on the ice-breaker of the ship while cruising at sea.

The dead shark was discovered by porters as the cargo vessel Elena docked at the Cebu International Port from Singapore.

The shark was discovered when the ice breaker of cargo vessel Elena surfaced from sea water for the unloading of container vans.

Port personnel found the shark hanging on to the ice breaker.

The shark was already in a state of decomposition when port personnel removed it from the vessel's ice breaker.

It took a huge forklift, a dump truck, and several personnel to move the shark from the vessel to the docking area.
