APL reports increases in freight volume, rates

Neptune Orient Lines said its container liner shipping subsidiary APL transported higher volumes of freight at higher rates in 2007.

The Singapore company said that for the six weeks from Nov. 17 to Dec. 28 line volumes were 577,200 TEUs, up 18 percent over the same period the prior year. Average revenue was $5,690 per TEU.

For the full year, the company moved about 4.7 million TEUs, 12 percent more than in 2006, while rates averaged $5,480 per TEU, up 4 percent over 2006 levels.
