APM Terminals is considering development of a major new container terminal in the Santos region of Brazil.
Soren Jakobsen, the Panama City, Panama-based regional manager for APM Terminals in Latin America and the Caribbean, told Shippers' NewsWire that due to growing cargo volumes and limited port capacity in Brazil, APM feels there is a need for a new facility.
"We see opportunities to develop further capacity in Brazil to accommodate the growth and serve our customers," he said. "There are no specific projects in the pipeline, but we are looking at a number of opportunities."
APM operates Teconvi, the main terminal in Itajai, as well as the A.P. Moller-Maersk terminal in Pecem, the northeastern Brazilian port.
