The Sri Lankan affiliate of the Asia-based NVOCC and freight services provider Famous Pacific Shipping Group has recently won a contract to handle most of the logistics needs of the new power plant in Kerawalapitiya during its construction phase.
FPS Sri Lanka has been appointed by West Coast Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Lanka Transformers/Sri Lanka Electricity Board Group, to provide a complete package of logistics, covering documentation, customs clearance, loading and unloading of LCL traffic, containers, breakbulk and bulk cargo associated with the construction of the 300MW power plant, a company statement said.
"We handled the first shipment of 980 tonnes of break/bulk cargo, cleared and delivered, within 36 hours," said FPS Sri Lanka managing director Gihan Nanayakkara.
This latest contract is said to demonstrate that the FPS group is diversifying from its NVOCC roots to provide project cargo forwarding as part of its service offering.
Said FPS Group chairman Iskandar Zulkarnain: "Project cargo forwarding is becoming an increasingly important and active niche."
