Geodis Wilson boosts southern coverage with Rohde & Liesenfeld takeover

2008-1-21

The Geodis Group says it has acquired Rohde & Liesenfeld, an international air and sea freight forwarding group based in Germany, after obtaining regulatory approvals.

The R & L acquisition will strengthen Geodis' in Germany, South Africa, the Arabian Gulf and Latin America, where Rohde & Liesenfeld (R&L) conducts most freight forwarding activities. R&L is expected to contribute to the group's industrial projects offering, particularly in the oil and gas sectors.

A Geodis statement said that R&L, its main freight forwarding partner since 2002, will be integrated into Geodis Wilson, the freight management section of the Geodis Group. This will boost Geodis Wilson's headcount to 5,500 in some 50 countries.

"We plan to conclude the successful merger of R&L in 2008," said Geodis Wilson CEO Jeff Hoogesteger. "It will enable us to extend our global network, increase density on major international trade lanes and expand our customer base globally."
