2008-1-16

Maersk Detroit vessel has berthed at Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the Kingdom's sole container terminal, registering the highest record for container handling with a total amount of 3360 TEU in discharged and loaded cargo during 30 working hours.

"We are proud to have achieved this new record as an addition to our booming list of achievements. This new record reflects the terminal's capacity to undertake a huge number of shipments, which adds to its internationally reputable name," Mr. John Thomsen, CEO of ACT stated. Mr. Thomsen also said that this achievement was made possible due to the fruitful partnership between Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) and APM Terminal as both companies offer continuous support for the terminal and its employees in addition to the excellent services, advanced technology and global expertise they provide.

Maersk Detroit vessel has discharged 1833 TEU and loaded 1527 TEU, registering a total of 3360 TEU during that period. Furthermore, procedures of handling cargo to importers went with complete flexibility.

Moreover, APMT's distinguished role in enhancing the services of the Aqaba Terminal led the ADC to sign a 25 year partnership deal with APM Terminals in 2006. This agreement came after ADC issued an international tender to manage, operate and market ACT in 2004, to properly utilize the strategic location of Aqaba.

APM Terminal's prominent achievements include removing all congestion fees, reducing dwell time by creating berth window schedule, raising the safety and security codes, developing the terminal's facility, training employees and putting Aqaba back on the world shipping map.
