Guangzhou volume exceeds 9.2 million TEU in 2007

The Port of Guangzhou handled more than 9.2 million TEU in 2007, making it the fifth largest port in China, Xinhua reported.

The port's overall cargo tonnage rose to exceed 340 million tons, which is the third largest volume among all ports in China and the fifth in the world.

Guangzhou has invested over CNY10 billion (US$1.4 billion) on port expansion projects since 2000 which have added 72 berths with an aggregate capacity of 4.1 million TEU amounting to 55.5 million tons.

Guangzhou has 483 berths, 63 of them with a capacity of 10,000 tons or more. During the period from 2006 to 2010, Guangzhou will invest CNY20 billion more on port facilities, especially in the Nansha port area.
