2008-1-14

Construction on a high-grade expressway joining Guangdong port cities to Hong Kong has begun, Xinhua reported.

The highway, expected to reduce driving time by more than half, will run from Guiyang city in Guizhou to Shuikou in Guangxi where it will be connected to a wider expressway network which covers Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Transport distance from Guiyang to Guangzhou will be shortened to 887 kilometres from 1,350 kilometres and time cut down to eight hours from 20 hours.

The project costs CNY25.7 billion (US$3.5 billion) and is scheduled to be completed in four years.
