Taiwan's Port of Kaohsiung has seen its container traffic rise by 4.74 per cent in the first 10 months of the year to handle 8.47 million TEU, or 380,000 TEU more than in the same period a year ago.
The port's container throughput is a record high for the January-to-October period, according to a report by Taipei's China Post newspaper, which quoted figures released by the Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau.
Port officials forecast that the Taiwanese seaport will handle more than 10 million TEU for the whole of 2007. They attributed the growth in the port's container volumes to transporting grain in containers in place of bulk handling.
