The aggregate throughput of the seaports in Shandong province will exceed 1,000 TEU or 500 million tons by the end of this year, Xinhua reported.
According to Shandong Provincial Department director Jia Xueying the province now has 24 seaports and 136 berths with a capacity of more than 10,000 tons. Capacity of these ports totalled 280 million tons.
In 2006, these seaports handled 9.5 million TEU or 400 million tons of cargo, which was the third largest throughput among all provinces in China. Port of Qingdao, which is the province's largest port, handled 200 million tons. Another major port, Rizhao, handled 100 million tons.
