Wan Hai Line will add two Transpacific loops to its existing network through slot buying on Maersk Line's TP5 and TP8 services, said a company communique.
In another move, reported by AXS-Alphaliner, Wan Hai will boost its CTP service with PIL by 60 per cent through a ship replacement scheme.
The co-operation with Maersk, said the Wan Hai press statement, will include the following port coverage: TP5 Service - Shanghai, Ningbo, Los Angeles and Oakland. With the TP8 Service rotation will be: Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Busan, Los Angeles and Oakland.
Currently, Wan Hai operates a separate transpacific service covering Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Long Beach, and Oakland. The addition of TP5 and TP8 service provides an enhancement to Wan Hai's transpacific coverage and promises to deliver a more reliable and comprehensive coverage, the company said.
Wan Hai has confirmed that its other service, the China Transpacific (CTP), run jointly run with PIL, will not be deploying four 6,039-TEU ships in the foreseeable future.
The four ships in question will instead join MISC Berhad for deployment on the Far East-Europe trade within the Grand Alliance partnership, reports AXS-Alphaliner News.
The first of these vessels on charter, the Wan Hai 601, has already been delivered to MISC and has joined the Grand Alliance's Asia-Mediterranean service (EU M). The second ship, the Wan Hai 602, is scheduled to be deployed on the Grand Alliance's Asia-Europe EU 3 Loop.
The two other vessels, the Wan Hai 603 and Wan Hai 605, are expected in service soon, the Wan Hai 603 having been delivered from Taiwan yards recently. Delivery of the other is expected this month.
The Alphaliner report said that five 4,250-4,500-TEU vessels will be used on the Wan Hai-PIL joint CTP service. They replace five 2,300-3,000-TEU ships, thus increasing capacity on the loop 60 per cent within six months.
Two of the displaced ships have already joined their new charterer, CMA CGM, while the remaining vessels will be used on the Wan Hai-CSAV Norasiatranspacific MTP loop.
