Westports Malaysia says it has become the first container terminal at Port Klang to hit four million TEU by December, placing it on track to achieve a total throughput of 4.3 million TEU for fiscal 2007.
"Our growth is consistent and we see it continuing that way. We expect to grow our overall volume by 17 per cent this year," said executive director Ruben Emir Gnanalingam in a company statement.
Westports container volume for the first 11 months of 2007 amounted to 3.95 million TEU, compared with 3.35 million for the corresponding period last year.
Mr Ruben said the container terminal's domestic container throughput has also continued last year's momentum by surpassing one million TEU this year.
"We are expected to notch a 15 per cent growth to 1.23 million TEU this year, from 1.07 million TEU in 2006," he said.
He added that Westports' four millionth TEU was a China Shipping Container Line box.
