2007-12-12

Athens, Greece-based Danaos Corp. has ordered three 10,100-TEU containerships from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in a deal valued at about $450 million.

The ships are due to be delivered in each of the first three months of 2011. Danaos said it has arranged for "a large international liner company" to charter the vessels for 12 years each, at accretive rates.

The three ships increase Danaos' contracted fleet of newbuildings to 34 vessels with a total carrying capacity of 243,468 TEUs or 160 percent of its current fleet.
