Schenker steps up South East Asia presence

2007-11-7

BAX Global (Thailand) Limited was legally merged with Schenker (Thai) Ltd on November 1, part of a current worldwide BAX/Schenker integration process. The merged company in Thailand will operate under the name Schenker (Thai) Ltd and be led by managing director Victor Lim.

Schenker, part of the logistics division of German rail group Deutsche Bahn, has been operating in Thailand for more than 33 years. The newly-merged Thai company will reportedly rank amongst the top three supply chain service providers in that country, with over 1,100 staff working in 12 branches across Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, 25,000 square meters of warehousing space and more than 250 vehicles.

Schenker said the Thai company was poised for further growth as two more Free Zone warehouses at Survarnabhumi Airport and logistics hubs in the Bangkok and Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate areas become operational in 2008.

Schenker also recently moved ahead in Vietnam with the official ground-breaking ceremony for a 15,000 square meter logistics hub at the Song Than Industrial Zone in Binh Duong Province.

That facility, which is expected to be completed by March 2008, will join three Schenker offices and over 120 staff already operating in Vietnam. The new hub will serve both export companies with its CFS (Container Freight Station) function and international companies from the growing hi-tech industries around Ho Chi Minh City.
