Icelandic port to get second container line

2007-11-2

The New Brunswick port of Saint John will have a second container line starting from tomorrow.

Eimskip, an Icelandic sea transportation company, will send its first container ship to the port as part of a four-month trial.

Saint John Port Authority board chairman Stephen Campbell says it's a major coup.

He says that Saint John has wooed Eimskip for two years, and they're hoping it's a permanent presence.

The shipping company will also visit Halifax and New England.

Eimskip has a fleet of 50 vessels, 2,000 trucks and 180 cold stores in 30 countries.
